4TH GRADE CHORUS
As part of the Gateway School District Music Curriculum, all 4th Grade students will participate in the 4th Grade Chorus. Singing in the chorus is an exciting opportunity for students to engage in many new musical experiences. Students in chorus, or choristers, will express themselves in new ways, learn diverse musical selections, develop their singing voices as lifelong musical instruments, and experience the satisfaction of performing well and working with a large group. Participating in a chorus also allows students to learn and develop the 21st Century Skills of collaboration, communication, critical thinking, and creativity.
Mr. Verno teaches 4th Grade Chorus at all 4 Gateway K-4 Elementary Buildings. Rehearsal at each building takes place once every 5-day rotation for 30 minutes. It is important for students to come to rehearsal prepared and ready to actively engage in class activities as our practice time together is limited. In addition to learning the repertoire for the concert, students will engage in activities and exercises to develop several foundational skills for good singing and musicianship, including body alignment, breath management, phonation or voice placement, resonant tone production, clear diction, and expression.

DISCIPLINE PROCEDURES
If a chorister is not following the rules during rehearsal, (1) he/she will be given a verbal warning. If after the verbal warning the negative behavior continues, (2) the chorister will be asked to go back to class and call home to inform the parents of the negative behavior. The chorister may return to rehearsal the following week. If a negative behavior persists, (3) the chorister will receive another warning. If the same chorister is asked to go back to class a second time, (4) Mr. Verno will inform the parents and the chorister will be asked to leave the group for the remainder of the school year.
CONCERTS
We typically have one chorus concert each year in May.
