Meet Mr. Verno...
Mr. Dave Verno holds a Master of Music in Music Education with a Kodály Emphasis from Capital University in Columbus, OH. He is also a 2010 graduate of Indiana University of Pennsylvania earning a B.S. in Music Education and a B.F.A. in Music Performance concentrating in flute. Mr. Verno has taught K-6 general music, 4-6 chorus, and 4-5 instrumental music in his career as a music educator. Since graduating, he has held positions in the Hempfield Area, Leechburg Area, and United School Districts. He currently teaches K-4 general music, 4th grade chorus, 4th grade band, and 4th grade orchestra in the Gateway School District and has also worked with Gateway's marching band as an assistant director for woodwinds throughout the marching season.
Mr. Verno holds both a Kodály Specialist Certification and a World Music Pedagogy Certification and also plans to obtain several levels of certification in Orff-Schulwerk over the next few years. He is the 2019-2021 2nd Vice-President (past president) of the Pittsburgh Golden Triangle chapter of the AOSA (America Orff-Schulwerk Association) and was the 2017-2019 President. Mr. Verno won first place in the Delta Omicron Solo Competition in 2010 while studying flute performance at IUP. He currently is the principal flutist of the Pittsburgh Philharmonic and enjoys singing with the bass section of the Summer Singers of Voces Solis. Mr. Verno currently lives in Bethel Park with his wife, Lindsay who is also a music teacher, kiddos, Juliette and Jad, and their English bulldog, Denzi, and French bulldog, Gustav. |
