Hello again! I have a bunch of pictures from activities from earlier this year that I did not post on the grade level blogs before I deleted them. So, I decided to have a few "Flashback Fridays" to share some of the things we did earlier this year. But… it's actually Saturday right now. I missed Friday. Oh, well. It's the thought that counts. Today I'm going to feature something all the way back from Halloween! Throughout the K-4 elementary grades, we are always working on vocal development. This means different things at different ages, but in Kindergarten and 1st Grade, and sometimes even into 2nd Grade, we work on vocal exploration. Really, we're just exploring the different ways we can use our voices. 1st Graders learn to differentiate our 4 main voices: whispering, speaking, shouting, and singing. Of course, we can make lots of other sounds too. To develop our singing voices, we often make high pitched sounds and slide our voices around in several ways like a siren. This past Halloween, 1st Grade worked on creating Ghost Pathways. First, I drew a line on the board, and the class would slide their voices following the line lower and higher. Later, individual students came to the board to create their own ghost pathways. On another week, students worked in small groups creating several different shapes to try out together. It's been awhile, but I bet if you ask your kiddo to draw a shape and follow it with their voice, lots of fun will take place. We had a blast, and I'm sure you will too.
Musically yours, Mr. Verno

Happy Tuesday everyone! I just posted the lyrics for the upcoming Music in Our Schools Month Concerts featuring 3rd and 4th grades at both CSE and Evergreen. You can find them under "For Students" or just click HERE. 4th Grade chorus at both schools will be singing "Glorious" sung by David Archuleta, "Cool Kids" by Echosmith, "Happy" by Pharrell Williams, and "Best Day of My Life" by American Authors. Check out these videos of the PS 22 Chorus and the One Voice Children's Chorus singing these tunes. Happy practicing!
Hello everyone! I am very excited to announce the new music room blog as a part of Mr. Verno's Music Room website! If you've visited here before and looked around, you might have noticed that I had planned for each grade to have their own blog page. Unfortunately, I am finding out that it is far too difficult to keep up with. I've had things planned to post for some of the grades but then feel bad that I don't have things for the other grades. So, it's turned out that I haven't posted anything. Sorry!
After some thinking about this problem, I decided that I would just have one shared blog between all of the grades! This way, I will have several things to post more often for everyone to see. The rest of the website will remain the same. I'll still have information about each school and grade level posted on their pages as well as the parent information. I hope to grow the student section soon! You can also take a look to the right of the blog posts for other quick helpful things. -----> Subscribe to the RSS Feed or I hope to find another way to let you subscribe soon! Look for SEVERAL more posts over the next few weeks and throughout the rest of the school year. Musically yours, Mr. Verno |
