Recently, Rabbi Mendy Schapiro approached me about having some Gateway students perform at a menorah lighting for Chanukah. The Chabad Jewish Center of Monroeville has organized a “Light Up the Night” Menorah Lighting and Chanukah Celebration event open to the whole community at the Miracle Mile Shopping Center on Wednesday, December 13 at 6:30pm. They have invited the Gateway 4th Grade Chorus to join in on the fun and sing a few Chanukah songs as part of the celebration. Check out the official flyer below: This event is an optional performance for our 4th graders because of the short notice. I will be in attendance to lead the students in the songs we are working on in chorus. If you would like your child to attend, please dress for the weather and plan to arrive around 6:15pm so that we can get organized and ready to sing. As of now, I am not sure where at the Miracle Mile they will be setting up the menorah or where we will gather. Please look for an additional letter or Skyward message coming home next week with the exact details.
If you have any other questions, please do not hesitate to contact me. I look forward to the celebration! Sing-cerely, Mr. Verno

It is hard to believe that the holiday season is already upon us! With it comes lots of celebrating but also lots of practicing – practicing for concerts, that is! This year’s Winter Concerts for 2nd Graders will take place on Friday, December 15, 2017. Evergreen's performance will be at 10:00am while CSE's performance will be at 2:15pm. Parents, family, and friends are invited to come and celebrate the season with us as we enjoy the talents of our 2nd Graders. They will perform a musical program based on the famous poem ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas, which will include traditional Christmas tunes as well as an “inform-ance” of some instrument and dance activities that we do in music class that go along with the theme of the poem.
The concert will take place during the school day, so all students will attend school as usual. On this day, all 2nd Graders should wear their favorite pajamas to school as part of the program. They should look like they are getting ready for bed “the night before Christmas.” Remember that this is for a performance, so the pajamas should be clean! We have been working very hard during music class, but you can also encourage your child to practice at home! You can find the lyrics and some music clips of the songs on this website! Here's how to get there:
Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions you might have about our upcoming performance. I hope to see you there! Happy Thanksgiving! Sing-cerely, Mr. Verno |
