Dear 2nd Grade Parents and Guardians,
It is hard to believe that the holiday season is already upon us! With it comes lots of celebrating but also lots of practicing – practicing for concerts, that is! This year’s 2nd Grade Winter Concerts will take place on Friday, December 14, 2018. Dr. Cleveland Steward, Jr. Elementary School's performance will take place at 10:00am, and Evergreen Elementary School's performance will take place at 2:15pm. Parents, family, and friends are invited to come and enjoy the talents of our 2nd Grade students. They will perform a musical program based on the book Extra Yarn by Mac Barnett. A portion of our program will be a traditional performance with songs relating to the story; however, other parts will be more of an “inform-ance” to share what we learn and do in music class each week that will also go along with and help to tell the story of Extra Yarn. The concert will take place during the school day, so all students will attend school as usual. On this day, all 2nd Grade students should wear their favorite colorful sweater as part of the story. Students may wear anything solid colored as a bottom to complement their sweater. Jeans, khakis, or a skirt would work well. They are also invited to bring a scarf, gloves, or mittens- anything made of yarn to include in the program! We have been working very hard during music class, but you can also encourage your child to practice at home! A few of our songs have a lot of words to memorize! You can find the lyrics and some music clips of the songs in the "For Students" section of this website! Just CLICK HERE. Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions you might have about our upcoming performance. I hope to see you there! Sing-cerely, Mr. Verno

The Gateway 4th Grade Chorus has again been invited to perform at the 2nd Annual Monroeville “Light Up the Night” Menorah Lighting and Chanukah Celebration. This event is open to the whole community at the Miracle Mile Shopping Center on Monday, December 3 at 5:30pm. Students will sing a few Chanukah songs and then are free to join in the festivities of the celebration. Last year, all were invited to partake in the latkes, hot chocolate, Chanukah gifts, and more! This event is an optional performance for our 4th graders. I will be in attendance to lead the students in the songs we are working on in chorus, and after singing they will return to you to enjoy the event. If you would like your child to attend, please dress for the weather and plan to arrive around 5:20pm so that we can get organized and ready to sing. We will gather near the menorah, which is placed in the parking lot between Panera Bread and Chick-fil-A. The area is blocked off for the celebration. Look for the tents! Check out the flyer below: If you have any other questions, please do not hesitate to contact me. I look forward to the celebration! It was a lot of fun last year!
