Good morning!
The assignment for our first week of distance learning is posted to Google Classroom. For this week, your child will watch a video about what music class will be like during this time and fill out a “Check-In” which has a few questions to answer about the video. If your child is in band or orchestra, a separate assignment has been posted to the Google Classroom for your child’s instrument. Be sure to also check your email about signing up for a free SmartMusic account! This will be the primary tool used in band and orchestra while we are distance learning. Please let me know if you have any questions! Have a great day! Mr. Verno

Dear CSE Students and Families,
Before we begin our first week of online learning, I wanted to let everyone know a little bit about what I am planning for music class. Just like in school, I want our online music class to be a chance for students to engage in joyful music-making. Each week, I will be making a simple presentation that will be easy to go through and complete. It will give your child a chance to make some music, share their musical knowledge, and also have some choice in what they decide to do. Our first week, which will be posted on Monday morning, is almost entirely a video showing everyone what music class will be like. I do not plan to teach any new musical concepts online and only plan for students to be able to share what they know, as I want this experience to be as simple and as joyful as possible. At the end of each lesson, there will be an assignment in Google Classroom that I will call a “Check-In” for students to complete to show that they completed their music class work for that week. This will be where they list their name and their teacher and answer a few short questions about the lesson that week. I will be also sharing in the Google Classroom some music websites, apps, and other fun things online that I have found for students to try out if they want. I will try to be as clear as possible with which thing is the assignment for each week and what is just for fun. If you ever have trouble with an assignment or have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out for help. I have already posted a few fun things in Google Classroom for you to check out. I hope everyone is staying safe and healthy! Sing-cerely, Mr. Verno This past weekend, 12 of our 4th grade students had the opportunity to participate in the Pittsburgh Youth Chorus's Singing Saturday at Mt. Lebanon High School. We've spent the month of February preparing and learning the music for the performance, and on Saturday, March 7, they spent the day with guest conductor, Steve Schmidt, and other 4th and 5th graders from all around the Pittsburgh area practicing for a wonderful performance! They did a fantastic job and represented our district well! Participating Students: CSE: Ava Anderson, Brooke Weiler, and Tyrion Williams Evergreen: Edward Koruzo, Alexis Nelko, and Ryeon Wormsley Ramsey: Izabelle Bansah, Rachel Tanis, and Lauren Vandervort UP: Mirai Graylee, Sanvi Jain, and Joshitha Vijayakumar Congratulations everyone! Students do not need to “dress up” for the “dress rehearsal!” Concert Dress is white and black dressy clothes. Boys: White or black collared shirt, black dress pants, black belt, black socks and black shoes. Girls: White or black blouse, black pants or skirt, (or a black and white dress), black shoes. *If your child is unable to wear the clothing described above, please have them wear something as close as possible. Parking for Rehearsals at GHS: For the rehearsals at Gateway High School Band Room, parents/guardians can park in the student lot next to the football field. The entrance to the band room is behind the auditorium, facing the football field and next to the upper stadium entrance. Please feel free to contact us with any questions or concerns about our rehearsals and concert. Thank You Very Much, Dave Verno - [email protected] Sean McMasters - [email protected] I am writing to remind you that all Gateway 4th Grade students will be performing in just under a month in the 4th Grade Chorus Spring Concert on Tuesday, May 14, 2019 at 7:00pm in the Robert A. Read Performing Arts Center (Gateway High School Auditorium). 4th Graders from Evergreen, Ramsey, University Park, and Dr. Cleveland Steward, Jr. Elementary Schools will combine together to perform a variety of music they have been working hard to learn this year. In order for us to prepare and rehearse for the evening of the concert as one large group, we will be traveling to Gateway High School on the morning of Tuesday, May 14th. Your child should have brought home a permission slip to be signed and returned to school so that he/she may participate with us in our rehearsal at the high school. You can find a copy of the permission slip HERE. On the evening of the concert, students should wear something nice white on top and black on the bottom. Boys should wear a white shirt with a collar, black dress pants, and black dress shoes with black socks. Girls should wear a white blouse and black dress pants/skirt or a black and white dress with black dress shoes to be comfortable in for standing for the duration of the evening. If your child does not have this, he/she should wear something as close as possible. We want to look our best, but no one will be told they cannot perform with us on stage! Students should report to the high school band room no later than 6:30pm to get in our concert order and warm-up our voices to perform. We will visit the band room during our rehearsal, but signs will also be posted directing them where to go. I look forward to seeing everyone there! Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions you might have. Here is that information again at-a-glance: 4th Grade Chorus Spring Concert Tuesday, May 14, 2019 Robert A.
