WOW! I am so thankful to everyone who came out to see our music class informances this week. Some of the crowds were packed full and some were just a few families, but I know that ALL of the students had a blast and learned a lot about performing in front of a group. After everyone left, I talked with each class about what they thought and how they felt. Some were nervous or anxious, but everyone said that they liked it and that they had fun. Thanks again for coming and supporting your child's music education. Oh, and a big thank you to the Kindergarten families for your flexibility in changing the informance date to Friday. You never know what the winter weather will bring!
If you have any pictures that you took during the informances, please send them to me! Text or Email them to [email protected]. I would appreciate being able to post some of the pictures on the music room website and possibly put some in the next Music Room Newsletter. Musically yours, Mr. Verno

Our Kindergarten, 1st Grade, and 2nd Grade Music Class Informances are coming up in just 1 week! "What's an informance?" you ask? An "inform"ance is a classroom performance of what we have been working on in music class. Each individual classroom will have its own performance. It is also a chance for you to see what we do and learn in music class every week. A Music Class Newsletter was sent home last week with all of the specific details, but you can also find all the details right here on the music room website. You can also find other useful parent resources if you click on the "For Parents" tab at the top. Download the K-1-2 Music Class Newsletter below.
Musically yours,
Mr. Verno Hello again! I have a bunch of pictures from activities from earlier this year that I did not post on the grade level blogs before I deleted them. So, I decided to have a few "Flashback Fridays" to share some of the things we did earlier this year. But… it's actually Saturday right now. I missed Friday. Oh, well. It's the thought that counts. Today I'm going to feature something all the way back from Halloween! Throughout the K-4 elementary grades, we are always working on vocal development. This means different things at different ages, but in Kindergarten and 1st Grade, and sometimes even into 2nd Grade, we work on vocal exploration. Really, we're just exploring the different ways we can use our voices. 1st Graders learn to differentiate our 4 main voices: whispering, speaking, shouting, and singing. Of course, we can make lots of other sounds too. To develop our singing voices, we often make high pitched sounds and slide our voices around in several ways like a siren. This past Halloween, 1st Grade worked on creating Ghost Pathways. First, I drew a line on the board, and the class would slide their voices following the line lower and higher. Later, individual students came to the board to create their own ghost pathways. On another week, students worked in small groups creating several different shapes to try out together. It's been awhile, but I bet if you ask your kiddo to draw a shape and follow it with their voice, lots of fun will take place. We had a blast, and I'm sure you will too.
