This past weekend, 12 of our 4th grade students had the opportunity to participate in the Pittsburgh Youth Chorus's Singing Saturday at Mt. Lebanon High School. We've spent the month of February preparing and learning the music for the performance, and on Saturday, March 7, they spent the day with guest conductor, Steve Schmidt, and other 4th and 5th graders from all around the Pittsburgh area practicing for a wonderful performance! They did a fantastic job and represented our district well! Participating Students: CSE: Ava Anderson, Brooke Weiler, and Tyrion Williams Evergreen: Edward Koruzo, Alexis Nelko, and Ryeon Wormsley Ramsey: Izabelle Bansah, Rachel Tanis, and Lauren Vandervort UP: Mirai Graylee, Sanvi Jain, and Joshitha Vijayakumar Congratulations everyone!

The entrance to the band room is behind the auditorium, facing the football field and next to the upper stadium entrance. Please feel free to contact us with any questions or concerns about our rehearsals and concert. Thank You Very Much, Dave Verno - [email protected] Sean McMasters - [email protected] The Gateway 4th Grade Chorus is invited to perform at the 3rd Annual Monroeville “Light Up the Night” Menorah Lighting and Chanukah Celebration. This event is open to the whole community at the Miracle Mile Shopping Center on Sunday, December 22, 2019 at 5:30pm. Students will sing a few Chanukah songs and then are free to continue to join in the festivities of the celebration. Each year we have performed at this event, it has grown bigger and more exciting!
This event is an optional, informal performance for our 4th graders. Unfortunately this year, I will not be able to attend as I will already be out of town celebrating the holidays with my family. However, Dr. Emily Levine (3rd Grade Teacher at Cleveland Steward Elementary), who helps to organize the event, has volunteered to lead the singing! When you arrive, feel free to take part in any of the activities with your family. When it is time for the chorus to sing, they will make an announcement for everyone to gather. After the students sing their songs, your child will return to you to continue to enjoy the event. If you would like your child to attend, dress for the weather and plan to arrive around 5:30pm. There really is no need to arrive early. The menorah is placed in the parking lot between Panera Bread and Chick-fil-A. The area is blocked off for the celebration, so just look for the tents! If you have any other questions, please do not hesitate to contact me. I am sad I will not be able to attend this year, but I still wanted our 4th Graders to have this opportunity to perform. I know everyone will have a great time! Happy Holidays! Sing-cerely, Mr. Verno I hope everyone's school year is off to a fantastic start! I wanted to share with you a change to my position at Gateway this school year that affects a lot of your kiddos. Sadly, I will no longer be the music teacher at Evergreen Elementary School due to a shift in music positions at Gateway. Mrs. Kelly Perry is taking over as the music teacher there. I will miss seeing everyone at Evergreen, but I know everyone will enjoy having Mrs. Perry as their music teacher this year! I will continue to the the music teacher for everyone at Dr. Cleveland Steward, Jr. Elementary School. There are no changes there!
I will also continue to be the 4th Grade Chorus teacher at every Gateway elementary school including Evergreen, CSE, Ramsey, and University Park as I have done for the past 3 school years. Chorus will begin in the next few weeks once the band lesson schedule is completed. Speaking of band... Instead of teaching music at Evergreen this year, I will be teaching the 4th Grade Band lessons! I'm looking forward to teaching band helping your kiddos fall in love with playing music on their favorite instrument! Mr. McMasters and I are currently trying out 4th graders and will be wrapping up the last building this week. Next week, we will begin to create the lesson schedule and send it out to everyone. I will also post it HERE on the my music room website. I am looking forward to the change in routine this year but will also miss everyone at Evergreen! Please let me know if you have any questions about the 4th Grade Band, 4th Grade Chorus, or elementary music at CSE. I will begin to update my website for this school year so that you have more information about each of these areas. Sing-cerely, Mr. Verno I am looking for any fantastic pictures that you would be willing to share with me of any of this year’s music performances. These include the Kindergarten and 1st Grade Singing Games Nights, the 2nd Grade Winter Program, the 3rd Grade Spring Recorder Concert, the 4th Grade Spring Chorus Concert, or even the Monroeville Menorah Lighting at the Miracle Mile Shopping Center. I would use these pictures to print out and hang in the music room next school year to get the kiddos excited about performing and also to share on the music room website. If you have any great photos that you’re willing to share, please send them to [email protected].
Sing-cerely, Mr. Verno |
